Chapters 36-44 Summary

Orlanda interviews Linc Bartlett earlier that morning and invites him and Casey to the party at Shi-teh's. Casey finds herself in a battle with Orlanda for Linc's attention all through the sumptuous dinner. As they are talking there is a scream of "fire" and they see smoke billowing from the dumb waiter. All of the main characters make it off of the burning boat.

Suslev goes to an apartment in the Sinclair Towers which is their safe house. After a time, there is a knock at the door and Jacques deVille enters. They talk about who the next tai-pan will be, the fire at the Floating Dragon, and then the runs on the banks. Suslev says the KGB is not involved, in response to deVille's question.
