Part 2, Chapter 1 Summary

Winston is back at work and as he walks through a corridor, the girl with dark hair stumbles to the floor right in front of him. He starts to help her up and she crams a small note in his hand. Time is standing still as he sits in his cubicle waiting for an opportune time to read the note. When he finally reads it, he is shocked. He stares at it again to make sure he read it right, "I love you." Suddenly he is filled with desire. She disappears for a few days and he is unsure whether the Thought Police vaporized her or she killed herself. After her reappearance, he makes a few attempts to get her alone at a lunch table.
