Summary

Chapter 75 is written from the perspective of an omniscient narrator. One week later, Jessica says that being pregnant was in her head. While they could have stayed together if she had been pregnant, they do not love each other enough to try to have a child. They do love each other enough, however, to have a friendly divorce.

Two weeks later, when the girls return from Europe they are happy to see Carmel. Her ex-husband, Joel, is grouchy, but Carmel and Sonia, his fiancée, bond. Carmel realizes that Joel had left her for something new, not something better and would leave Sonia in the future, too.

Three weeks later, Jo, Frances’ former agent, calls Frances while she is doing push-ups. She is starting her own imprint. She loves Frances’ new novel and wonders whether Frances can put a murder in it.
