Book 2, Chapter 6 Summary

Walser leaves Fevvers' hotel to wander through the cold streets once again. His emotions are in a state of confusion because for the first time he has to look within himself. This self-reflection is brought on by the fact that he can no longer write, due to his injured arm. He also admits to himself that he loves Fevvers. His inability to write brings on the recognition that he is no longer playing a clown, and he has now actually become one. He is thrown by his newfound love because it is an emotion he has never experienced, and to love Fevvers, who humiliated him so deeply, is almost unpleasant.
