Chapter 8 Summary (Pages 99 - 106)

Elie's father asked him to leave him in the snow to die. He was so exhausted and eternally tired that he simply wanted to give up on life. Elie and his father were arguing about this when the air raid sirens began to sound and Elie was forced into the blocks. Even though there was soup available, the prisoners were too tired to care. Elie could not help but fall asleep.

When Elie woke up he wondered about his father. For a brief moment he hoped he would not find him and has felt ashamed about this thought his whole life. Elie found his father, however, lying on a plank and very sick. His father had been stricken with dysentery.

Elie trades with fellow prisoners to get a bunk close to.....
