Chapter 38 Summary

The desk clerk Peter calls and wakes John up at 7:00 a.m. the next morning. John goes to the book lending library and tells a woman there that he wants to check out a book. She slides the receipt book to John, and he signs it Giuseppi Verdi. The woman asks for a room key, and John tells her that he doesn't have one. She looks up Room 203 and informs him that there the name is under John Corey. John tells her that this is his boyfriend's name. She writes "Corey" on the slip. John asks her if he gets a receipt, and she tells him that he gets a pink receipt when he returns the book, but he can just leave the book in the room when he checks out if he does not need a return receipt.
