Summary

Thirty-three-year-old Amadeo Padilla was chosen to play the role of Jesus for the Easter celebration in his small town in New Mexico. He prepared for his role by making the cross he would be carrying up the hill. Manual Garcia, an old man who had previously played the role of Jesus when he was younger, watched Amadeo during his preparations with disapproval. Manual had been the most memorable Jesus as he had insisted on being nailed to the cross. His hands were permanently disfigured since this performance. After making his cross, Amadeo drove home to his mother’s house. He saw his pregnant 15-year-old daughter, Angel, waiting for him. She told him she was going to stay with him for a while as she and her mother had fought. Amadeo is reluctant to let his daughter stay as he had abandoned responsibility...
