Summary

Chapter 29 begins with Katherine in bed in the morning. Cassandra comes to her room and tells Katherine that she must leave immediately because Rodney has been inappropriate with her. Katherine seems unfazed by this confession, and asks Cassandra whether she has enjoyed herself. Katherine then asks Cassandra if she might be in love with Rodney, and Cassandra realizes that Katherine and Rodney are no longer engaged. Soon, Aunt Celia arrives and waits for Katherine in the kitchen because she wants to discuss something. Celia tells Katherine that people are talking about the intimacy between Rodney and Cassandra and that it does not reflect well on either of them. Katherine tells her aunt not to say anything to Cassandra, and asks Celia to leave. Soon, Rodney arrives and apologizes to Katherine for their quarrel the day before.
