Summary

At the start of Chapter 26, 22-year-old Cassandra Otway is on her way to the Hilbery house in Cheyne Walk. Cassandra is excited to spend time with her cousin and learn more about Katherine’s engagement to William Rodney. Once she arrives, Katherine tells her that she will sit next to Rodney at dinner to get to know him better, and Cassandra appears nervous. That evening at dinner, Cassandra and Rodney discuss Rodney’s work as a playwright and Katherine observes that they both seem very happy with one another. Katherine, Rodney, and Cassandra continue to talk about literature and politics until Katherine leaves the room to be alone.
