Summary

Elisa feels Pablo’s absence with each passing day. It has been weeks since he was in Havana, and his letters arrive more sporadically now. Elisa is not allowed to go into the city on her own anymore, and this is fine with her. She is scared.

When she is reading a book on a couch, Isabel and Beatriz argue in the next room. Beatriz barges in, saying that Isabel is crazy, getting engaged to Alberto. She doesn’t think that they are a compatible couple, that their backgrounds are too different to overcome. Elisa is left worrying about her own compatibility with Pablo, and how it seems as though they will never be able to put aside their differences.
