Never Cry Wolf Objects/Places

Dominion Wildlife Service

An agency based out of Ottawa and Farley Mowat's employer. Also referred to as the Department.

Churchill

A town located on the western shore of the Hudson Bay. Mowat is stranded here for a period while he looks for a pilot to fly to the arctic. Also the location of a mad wolf hunt, which occurred in 1946.

The Barren Lands, Keewatin

An arctic area roughly three hundred miles northwest of Churchill and where most of the story takes place.

Esker

A sandy, dried up riverbed. The wolves have a winter den in an esker.

Wolf House Bay

The region located near the wolf den esker. It is named by Farley Mowat.

Hidden Valley

The region where Angeline's mother and sister live.

Caribou

A large deer that lives in the arctic. Farley is sent to the arctic to determine if wolves are the cause of their rapidly decreasing numbers.

Lemming

A rodent with a four-year population cycle. A popular food for the wolves...
