Chapter 21 Summary

When Mowat returns to the wolves' summer den area in mid-September, he finds that the pups have grown large enough to leave the den and participate in some of the hunts. He also finds that a new, dark-grey wolf has joined the group. One day, while observing the wolves on a presumed hunt, Farley watches as the pack of wolves performs their pre-hunt song. Afterwards, George remains on the top of a ridge while the other three - Angeline, Albert and the Stranger - head into a valley filled with caribou. When the three wolves reach the opposite, western, end of the valley, they spread out, with several hundred yards between them and begin herding the caribou. The wolves are soon herding a large pack of about a hundred caribou, which start breaking.....
