Farley and Ootek come upon a family of Eskimos, who are members of Ootek's tribe. The family is camped on the side of the river with the intent of spearing caribou as the crossed a narrow point in the river a few miles downstream. Ootek anxiously joins their hunt the next day and Mowat, who decides to enjoy the beautiful day, takes a bath in the river. Suddenly, he sees a pack of three wolves on a nearby ridge. The naked Mowat quickly grabs his binoculars and pursues the wolves across the countryside.
The wolves soon come upon several groups of grazing caribou and Mowat, who is certain he will finally get to see wolves hunt, watches as the disinterested wolves walk directly past the caribou. Continuing his pursuit, Mowat watches as the wolves.....
