Chapter 16 Summary
One day, before the three adult wolves return from their evening hunt, Mowat decides to go near the den in order to observe the pups, who are almost always concealed from his current view point. He watches as the four pups wrestle over a caribou bone. A raven flies overhead and the pups flee momentarily into the den. When they emerge, two pups return to the battle over the bone and the other two begin hunting for mice. Without Mowat's noticing, Angeline returns to the area and he finds himself trapped very close to the den area. Not wanting to startle the wolves by moving, Mowat continues to observe as Angeline regurgitates ten pounds of meat, which the pups greedily consume. Farley is betrayed by his stomach, which growls loudly when he is hungry; and Angeline tracks down his position. She emerges from the gully about ten feet from Mowat,...
