Selvam is fully entrenched in the building and operation of the hospital and is essentially gone from the family. The money keeps coming in for the hospital, and Rukmani wonders how Kenny can obtain a steady stream of funding, unaware that the money comes from British organizations interested in the colonization of India.
At the same time, Old Granny is found dead by the side of the road, and Rukmani grieves for the old woman and holds back thoughts that Ira may one day succumb to the same fate. Ira and Sacrabani continue to live with the family, and the child is now four years old. Nathan's health is failing, which gives rise to more uncertainty for the future of everyone in the house.
