The Unnamed Narrator

The narrator of the story never gives his name. He recounts the story of his neighborhood and the years surrounding the rape of one of his friends and crush, Lindy Simpson. Early on he admits that he is one of the suspects in the case and takes the opportunity to explain himself. He is a young teenage boy learning about his sexuality in a home with no father to guide him. He becomes involved with pornography and develops a crush on his neighbor, Lindy. He watches her from his window and wishes for so much more to happen between the two of them. However, Lindy doesn't speak to him after he tells the whole school that she was raped.
