Summary

In Chapter 23, when the girls arrive home, Martin refuses to eat the scorpion. He tells Cayenne that he does not believe she ate a scorpion either. After the poker game is finished, Turtle walks outside with Wallace. She tells Wallace that she does not think that Cayenne is there of her own free will. Wallace does not believe Turtle and refuses to call the police. He tells her that it is none of his business.

Later that night, when Martin rapes her, she realizes that there is something wrong with her that she would let him rape her. When Turtle walks out of her father’s bedroom, she hears Cayenne crying. She had not thought that Cayenne would be able to hear what they were doing. Turtle intends to walk back to her room and ignore the girl but then remembers that Jacob...
