Chapter 1 Summary

"Honored Guest." The author arrives at a hotel in Australia and is met by a driver who is to take her to a luncheon meeting. During the ride, she thinks about the invitation to attend an award ceremony, where she is to be honored for her efforts to help disadvantaged Aborigines become more self sufficient.
