Act 5, Scene 4 Summary

The final scene of the play begins with Leonato, Benedick, Beatrice, Margaret, Ursula, Antonio, Hero, and the Friar gathered to begin the wedding. The Friar and Leonato discuss the fact that Hero has been exonerated of her guilt, and note that Don Pedro and Claudio were not actually guilty since Don John fooled them. Leonato also absolves Margaret of any wrongdoing, since Borachio fooled her.

Leonato then sends the ladies off to put on masks for the wedding. After they leave, Benedick tells Leonato and the Friar that he loves Beatrice and wants to marry her. Leonato says that his love has come from himself, Don Pedro and Claudio. Benedick misses the point of this reference to the conspiracy to bring him and Beatrice together, but asks both of the other men for permission to marry her. Both Leonato and the Friar agree.
