Act 5, Scene 1 Summary

In this scene, we see Leonato being comforted by his brother Antonio. Leonato says that he is torn between wanting to believe Hero and believing that she is guilty. He goes on to say there is nothing Antonio could say that would lessen his grief and pain, only that he will have to endure it. Antonio begs him to share the pain by sharing his thoughts and feelings. Leonato agrees, and confesses that in his soul he believes that his daughter has been wrongly accused.

Don Pedro and Claudio then enter and try to leave quickly, but Leonato and Antonio accost them. Leonato accuses Claudio of lying, and then tells him that he does not fear Claudio's sword. Claudio replies that he would never fight an old man, and Leonato again accuses.....
