Act 3, Scene 4 Summary

This scene takes place in Hero's bedroom. Hero sends Ursula to wake up Beatrice, and then she and Margaret discuss which gown she should wear. Margaret also makes some off-color remarks about how Hero will be heavier "by the weight of a man," meaning that Hero and Claudio will soon be having sex. Hero chides Margaret for her forwardness, and notes that she has a feeling that disaster may strike.

Beatrice then enters, and Hero and Margaret begin to tease her about her sadness. They subtly probe Beatrice for details about her new feelings for Benedick. Margaret takes things a step further by discussing the change in Benedick's behavior, and suggesting that Beatrice herself may now be considering love and marriage. Ursula then enters and tells the group that Claudio and his friends have arrived to take them all to the church.
