The scene begins with Benedick entering the orchard and sending a servant for a book in his room. He then soliloquizes about the change in Claudio. In his soliloquy, he marvels that Claudio has gone from being a dedicated soldier to being deeply in love with Hero. He also wonders whether he will ever undergo this change, as he notes that a woman would have to have all of the desirable characteristics of money, beauty, wit, and talent before he would even entertain the thought of falling in love.
