Summary

The narrative skips ahead several months to mid-February. Brendan is living at home again, and Eve sees his presence as “a huge backward step for both of them” (241). Brendan has begun taking a few classes at ECC, and Eve has stopped taking classes there in order to give Brendan necessary space. Brendan goes to a restaurant to hang out with Chris Mancuso, a friend from high school. Chris is two years older than Brendan and says that he loves college. Unfortunately, Chris was suspended due to misconduct perpetrated by his fraternity. He says that he thinks he will join the marines rather than go back to college.
