Srinivas

Srinivas, the protagonist of the novel, is in his mid-thirties. He has a wife and a young son named Ramu. He is the son of a successful lawyer, but unlike his brother, he chooses not to follow in his father’s footsteps. Instead, Srinivas decides to move from his hometown Talapur to Malgudi, where he makes plans to start a political journal called The Banner. He also for a brief time becomes a script writer for a film production company.

Srinivas is depicted as a philosophical and deep thinker, sometimes to the brink of absurdity. He is often shown reading a book or plotting a new article for The Banner, which is mildly successful. However, the loftiness of his ideas and perspective often produce conflicts with others in his family and professional life.
