Summary

Chapter 24, titled "An Agent of the League," finds Tom and Hester recovering after that blast of light. There are riders from the village bearing down on them but they are stopped by Anna Fang, who explains she wants them alive. Anna greets the pair warmly, ushering them onto two horses and taking them to a village physician. Four of Tom's ribs are broken and even though he is initially hesitant he realizes that not all of these people are Anti-Tractionist savages. The doctor calls him a hero but Tom feels like a murderer as he drifts off to sleep. He awakens to Anna asking him if he is well enough to travel. Tom responds by asking where Hester is and that he will not travel with Anna. Anna laughs and explains to Tom that she fights against Municipal Darwinism not because...
