Toronto is the most populous city in Canada, and it is the capital of the province of Ontario. The majority of the story takes place in Toronto, as Janet’s father checks in to Toronto General Hospital for his heart condition. Judith and her boyfriend live together in Toronto, and Janet stays with them while she is in town. She regularly visits her father in the hospital, and she occasionally wanders through the downtown area in search of diversions.

Dalgleish

Dalgleish is a fictional Canadian town. As a child, Janet lived in Dalgleish, and her father still lives there. To Janet, Dalgleish represents her childhood, and she looks back to her days in Dalgleish as a referent for her relationship with her father and how that relationship has persisted.
