Bond is waiting for Brand in a restaurant. He begins to get worried as she is running late. As he waits, he thinks of the information Vallance gave him earlier that the pound had been fluctuating wildly that day and was down three cents at the close of the day. It turns out Drax's company had sold the British pound short for a profit of twenty million pounds. The treasury is confused and concerned by this action. Both Vallance and M are also concerned but they do not have enough evidence to justify stopping the Moonraker launch. They tell Bond if there is something bad going on it is up to Bond to find it out and stop it.
