Remember When. August 12, 1936. People respond to the Remember When contest in droves, causing Abilene, Lettie, and Ruthanne to get caught up in the stories when they are supposed to be looking for the same handwriting from the warning note. Most of the letters contain names Abilene recognizes, including Ned's name. After a time they finally find a match to their note in an annoyed letter from Mr. Underhill.

Miss Sadie's Divining Parlor. August 23, 1936. In the excitement of finally finding the Rattler, Abilene goes to Miss Sadie. Miss Sadie is unimpressed. Not only this, but her leg wound has grown much worse. Miss Sadie begins talking about death before she starts the next part of the story.
