Chapters 27 and 28 Summary

Everyone except for Jake and Astride participate in the farewell dinner. As Mr. Appleton is shaking Niko's hand to leave, Mr. Appleton slumps to the floor. They discuss trying to get Mr. Appleton to the hospital, but Robbie mentions it was one of the first places to be closed down because it was mobbed. They use smelling salts to wake Mr. Appleton up. They each take shifts on caring for Mr. Appleton.

In the middle of the night, Astrid wakes them all up screaming. They find her pointing a gun at Robbie with a half-naked Sahalia nearby clutching to Astrid's legs. Astrid insinuates that Robbie was trying to have sex with Sahalia. Robbie keeps insisting that Sahalia threw herself at him.

Brayden takes the gun from Astrid. Robbie starts to struggle with Brayden over the gun. The gun fires and Brayden...
