Chapters 9 and 10 Summary

On the third morning in the store, Batiste suggests to Dean that they set up a kitchen from items in the aisles. They do and then Dean sends the kids off to find out from Jake what the plan is for the day.

The kids spend the rest of the day playing games and playing with toys. Niko figures out how to use the pizza ovens so he makes pizza for everyone. Sahalia, Brayden and Jake get drunk. When Niko and Jake start fighting, the little kids starts crying and wailing. Josie, who has not spoken since the accident, uses an air horn to stop the chaos. She says they are going to have a ceremony to honor the dead and then elect someone to be in charge until Mrs. Wooly returns.
