Chapter 16: In Which the Long-ears Reappear

Max and Pia walked through his house. Someone had wrecked the place. There were overturned chairs and strewn books and posters. Worst of all, Ari was unconscious lying face down on the dining room table. Max rolled him over. There was blood on his cheek. Ari started to come to. Max told Pia to run to his grandmother’s house to get some ice. Ari tried to stand, but he was woozy. He touched his head and said it was pretty tender. Max could see the goose egg forming on his head. The front parlor was untouched, but the kitchen was a mess with everything in disarray. Pia told them that Grammie was on her way over.
