Summary

In Chapter 37, "Summer," Misha and Janina watch the trains come to the station. Word spreads throughout the ghetto. People believe the Jews will be resettled. Mr. Milgrom tells Misha to keep an eye on Janina. One day, Misha discovers the boys are missing.

In Chapter 38, an old man arrives and tells everyone there is no resettlement. He says the Jackboots are killing all the Jews. Mr. Milgrom tells Misha to take Janina through the wall and never to return. Though he tries, Misha cannot get Janina to stay on the other side.

In Chapter 39, Misha and Janina cannot get back through the wall. All the holes are plugged. They see everyone parading out of the ghetto, so they run to Stawki Station. At the station Misha loses sight of Janina, until he sees a Jackboot lift and throw her through the crowd. While...
