Summary

In Chapter 28, flies and crows fill the ghetto as the dead bodies in the streets increase. Misha and Janina continue smuggling, stealing through the crack in the wall and out into the city. One night they come back and everyone is herded in the streets. The Flops threaten to hang anyone who continues smuggling.

In Chapter 29, Misha worries about Janina's safety while smuggling. The next night they go out, instead of stealing, Misha shows Janina the angel tombstone. He tells her everyone has an angel inside them. The angels keep them safe while they're alive but return to heaven after they die. On their way home, they see a man filling a sewer hole with a flamethrower. Enos says the flamethrower is to keep them from sneaking out of the ghetto through the sewers. Misha thinks the fire is beautiful.
