Summary

On May 27, when Ferrar is again visiting his family, he tells his grandmother, abuela, about the apartment he has rented for them in New York City, and she quietly accepts this course of events. Ferrar also invites the Marquesa to a romantic weekend at a coastal hotel, and they make love together. The next week, however, Ferrar meets with de Lyon and discusses how he believes the Marquesa is a spy. De Lyon believes that the Marquesa and Dalia, who had lured Castillo to his death in Madrid, are in fact the same person.

When Ferrar returns to his home, however, the Marquesa is there waiting for him. They have an open discussion, where the Marquesa reveals that she is a spy for Franco's Nationalists -- but only because they have taken her younger sister captive. Ferrar tries to think of a way...
