Book 4, Air-Ride Summary
Serving in his present capacity as an assistant cultural attaché, Cal is attending an opening of a Warhol exhibit. Cal resembles a Musketeer with a cigar. Cal takes a drink from a roving waiter and sits down. When he looks up, Julie - the girl he dated and never called back - is standing before him. The two briefly discuss cigars and then Cal offers to explain why he never called her. "There's something you should know about me," he began.
Back at Middlesex, before Milton's unfortunate end, he receives a call from a man that says he has Callie and will return her if Milton pays a ransom of $25,000. Milton leaves Tessie in the middle of the night without telling her where he is going. In her pessimism, she figures he is leaving her for good.
