Chapters 64-66 Summary
Lydgate's agitation grows; his outstanding debts total one thousand pounds. His marriage continues to suffer. When Lydgate mentions ideas for cutting household costs to Rosamond, she resists. She fears gossip from the townspeople. One idea Rosamond offers is for Lydgate to demand a salary from the hospital that Bulstrode runs. Lydgate, in turn, mentions selling the house to the Plymdales and obtaining a house that would be cheaper to run.
Showing her will once again, Rosamond leaves the house just behind Lydgate. She visits Mrs. Plymdale, who tells of the house that her son plans to buy for his new family. When Mrs. Plymdale asks if Rosamond knows of other houses for sale, Rosamond, dishonestly, says no.
