Chapters 61-63 Summary

Again, Raffles visits Bulstrode at home, though only Mrs. Bulstrode is there. She reports the visit to her husband, who promises to take care of the matter at the office the net day. The narrator describes the nature of Bulstrode's past with Raffles, concerning Bulstrode's previous wife. Bulstrode also reflects on the business that made him rich. He made much money as a pawnbroker who did not check on the origins of the items he bought and sold.

In an effort to make things right, Bulstrode seek out Will Ladislaw, tells him of their common past and offers him money. Will wants to know if the money came about honestly. When Bulstrode cannot say that it did, Ladislaw refuses the offering. After their meeting, Bulstrode, alone in his office, weeps.

Ladislaw wants to see Dorothea.....
