Chapters 6-7 Summary

In chapter six, Garrett thinks about Catherine, his wife, as he prepares Happenstance for the night's voyage. They had known each other since early childhood but drifted apart until Garrett returned home after finishing college. After running into each other on Wrightsville Beach, they were inseparable and married a short time later. Now Garrett remembers their first sail on Happenstance. A speeding old man took her away and Garrett cannot imagine going on without her. Garrett's father, Jeb, lost his own wife twenty years ago and has tried to push him into moving on, but Garrett resists. As these thoughts are moving through Garrett's mind, Theresa arrives.
