HIV

Benson’s HIV symbolizes social alienation. Benson’s parents do not approve of or accept Benson’s homosexuality. After he is diagnosed with HIV, his parents force him out of the house, as the diagnosis is an indirect reminder of Benson’s sexuality. Benson is careful not to infect other people, and he is grateful to have relationships with people who accept his sexuality and diagnosis.

Bar
