Summary

Mike tells Eiju that he does not want to run the bar. Mike wants to return to Houston after Eiju’s death. Mike briefly recalls a post-coital conversation in which Benson talked about the significance of context, and how context can alter meaning. Mike remains in contact with Tan, and they spend some more time together. One day, Mike goes to Tan’s apartment, and they have sex. Mike returns to Eiju’s home, only to learn that Eiju has been taken to a hospital after fainting. In a brief flashback, Mike recalls how he and Benson ‘s relationship had been characterized by many moments of anger and resentment in the days leading up to Mike’s departure from the U.S. While Eiju is under medical observation, tests show that Eiju will likely die soon.
