Summary

Chapter 4. While attending a conference, the bear realizes that Sea Lion has published the first part of her story without her permission. She obtains a copy of the magazine in which her words have been published, discovers the title he has put on it (“Thunderous Applause for My Tears” (25)), and when she returns home, goes to his office to confront him. She reminds him that she is physically incapable of crying, and that to her, “‘ice and snow are everything. You can’t just thaw them out and turn them into tears’” (27). He tells her that the title refers to the tears of her readers, and flatters her into agreeing to write more. As she returns home, she recalls the centuries-long history of bears being trained to perform, and how the bears did not really know...
