Chapter 33 Summary

The time after Nobu proposes himself as her danna passes in a daze for Sayuri. She feels listless and loses her appetite. Her only thoughts are of the Chairman and her hopes for a future with him. Mother approaches her with a newspaper article that explains how successful the Iwamura Electric Company has become and demands to know why Sayuri has not told Mother about this. Mother is eager for Nobu to become Sayuri's danna and is eager for it to take place as soon as possible. Sayuri isn't happy at the prospect but her chance to alter her destiny presents itself in a trip to Amami Island.
