Chapter 30 Summary

Sayuri writes to Mother the night after Nobu's visit and within a week, Auntie appears at the Arashinos' with gifts of tea and food to thank them for their hospitality. Sayuri returns to the Okiya in Gion with Mother and Auntie to spend long hours cleaning and repairing it to make it suitable for business again. A new addition to the Okiya is a young girl from the farm Mother and Auntie were living on, who regards Sayuri the same way Sayuri regarded Hatsumomo.

When the Okiya is acceptable again, Sayuri tours Gion to pay her respects to people she knows. She is stunned by the changes in Gion especially with the marked presence of American soldiers.
