Chapter 29 Summary

Sayuri goes to live and work with the Arashino family grateful for the chance to get out of Gion and survive the war, a chance not possible for everyone. The Kyoto area of Japan wasn't attacked as heavily as other areas such as Osaka and Tokyo, and for that Sayuri and the Arashinos are grateful. They see the bombers going over at night, with the sky turning red from the ensuing bombings and flames. However, Sayuri worries about the people who matter to her, especially the Chairman and Nobu whose factories and homes are in Osaka.
