Chapter 27 Summary

As a fully qualified geisha, Sayuri is kept busy with engagements, dances and weekly meetings with the General. Sayuri is often too busy to realize how tired she is. Despite aching with fatigue, it never occurs to her to wonder how much money she must be making and is surprised to learn that in six months she has earned more than the combined earnings of Pumpkin and Hatsumomo. As daughter of the Okiya and the major earner in the Okiya, it is time for her to swap rooms with Pumpkin and Hatsumomo.

Sayuri is worried that the swapping of rooms will rouse Hatsumomo's vengeance and voices her fears to Mameha who is calm and expects Hatsumomo to seek revenge and, being prepared for the worst, is determined to ensure Hatsumomo's downfall. Sayuri is correct.....
