Chapter 24 Summary

Mameha returns from her trip and is pleased to learn that Mother has decided to adopt Sayuri. Sayuri is concerned that Mameha doesn't seem pleased but Mameha assures her that she is and that her plan for Mother to adopt her was achieved by the high bids placed by Nobu and Dr. Crab for Sayuri's mizuage. As soon as Mother learned of the high prices involved, she couldn't bear to miss such a great opportunity. With Sayuri an adopted daughter of the Okiya all proceeds would go to the Okiya, being enough to clear Sayuri's debts with some left over too.
