Chapter 18 Summary

Sayuri is excited about having met the Chairman again. She tries to find out as much information as possible about him. She discovers that his company celebrated its twentieth anniversary in the same month that she met the Chairman, a sign she sees as auspicious. It is clear from the information she finds that the Chairman and Nobu have a very close and successful business relationship that is further strengthened by their friendship. Sayuri asks Mameha if she intends Nobu to be her danna; she is worried about this, for if Nobu is her intended danna she will never have a chance with the Chairman. The relationship between the two men would prevent this. She doesn't realize how ludicrous her question is until Mameha reminds her of her place and of the fact.....
