Summary

Sayuri later learns that she’d gone to the proprietor of the inn and requested a quiet place to rest. Seeing her condition, he’d gone to Mameha shortly after. Mameha leaves her there, and Pumpkin steps in front of her. She is just like Hatsumomo in that moment, enjoying the mess that Sayuri’s life is in, and happy to have played a part in it. The rest of the evening is a blur. Three days after their return from Amami, a call comes in requesting Sayuri’s presence at the teahouse. She goes, knowing that Nobu would be there to finalize his claim as her danna. After some time waiting, she puts her head on her arms and drifts off, surprised when it is the Chairman who wakes her.
