Point of View

"Mayday" by Clive Cussler is a techno-thriller mystery told from a limited, third-person perspective of the main character, Dirk Pitt. Pitt is a tough, determined, intense character, who is determined to conquer what evil in the world he can by defeating a hardened ex-Nazi war criminal in his drug smuggling and human trafficking activities.

The reader follows the trail of Pitt, listening in on his conversations with all other characters, learning what he learns from those conversations; however, unlike other involved third-person perspectives, the reader is often kept out of Pitt's brain and his thought processes. Some of his thoughts and feelings are shared with the reader, especially when he is in a dangerous situation and is suffering, for example when he is in the Labyrinth and being attacked by the dog, the reader is along for most of the experience.
