Part 1: Flock Fright

Chapter 1 opens with Max narrating: "The funny thing about facing imminent death is that it really snaps everything else into perspective." Chap. 1, p. 5

Max is being chased as she flees from the School that had held her captive. Erasers, genetically altered young men that work as the School's security guards, are chasing her. Max describes the men that pursue her as "Mutants: half-men, half-wolves, usually armed, always bloodthirsty. Right now they were after me." Chap. 1, p. 5

Max and her friends have managed to escape from the School. However, the Erasers are not far behind. Max and the others believe they can get away.
