Summary

In Chapter 5, “Earn It,” Jake reminds Marc that he took about 45 minutes to do 100 pull-ups the previous summer. Jake does 100 in four and a half minutes, but he knows he can do better if he keeps working at it. Jake asks Marc about the new bicycle he wants. It is the Bentlee and Marc describes it in excited terms. Jake asks Marc about the bicycle he already has. Marc calls it “junk” (Location 364) and brings it into the garage. The bike is rusty and several pieces are broken or missing. Jake points out that Marc did not take care of that bike, and Marc comes up with the idea of promising to take care of a new bike, if his mother will buy it.
